2009 in review...

Review? How can we review 2009 when it hasn't happened yet?

What is it about the new year that calls everyone to action for weight loss? Is it because we're all so convicted about our horrible eating habits? Is it because the start of a whole new year makes us feel as though ANYTHING is possible. And you want to hear a secret? Anything is possible. It really is.

So these questions were proposed by my Weight Watcher leader as something for us to prepare for throughout the coming year. When we look back on 2009 what do we want to remember and be proud about?

If you were to write a year-end letter at this time next year, what would you like to be able to report...regarding your weight management?
I want to be able to say that I tried new things... experimented with new flavors... gave my daughter a solid basis for healthy eating. I want to be able to say that I cooked for my family more than we ate out. I want to say that I was committed to working out and it was something I looked forward to, rather than dreaded.

What do you want to build on?
I want to build on the foundation of consuming balanced meals. The right portion amounts, the right amount of proteins vs. carbs. I want to understand how the body processes the food. Not just eat those things because someone told me to.

What would you like to change?
My need for medication for acid reflux and living on the cusp of diabetes.

What would you like more of?
Energy.

What Helpful Habits do you want to improve?
Ask for Help, Learn from Experience, Manage Your Environment, Manage Your Feelings, Manage Your Thoughts, Monitor Yourself, Prepare Yourself, Take Care of Yourself
For me it would be Managing Your Environment and Prepare Yourself. I have to have things easy or else it's more likely I will fall off track. i have to have the right foods in all the right places or else I will slip. On "Preparing Yourself" I've got a spot in my closet where I separate out all my work out clothes for the week so that is one less thing I have to do on a daily basis.

What needs to happen for these things to become reality in 2009?
Commitment. Quit making excuses.

Seriously, I can come up with the best excuses as to why I can't workout or fix dinner. Or any other host of things that are "too hard". Some are valid... most are not.

I've got several little companions with me on the journey right now. One being my sister in law. I hope we can really work to encourage and motivate each other.

I will be sharing many avenues of my journey with you and how things are progressing. For instance, one of my goals was to try new things. Think outside the box. We made homemade pizza last night. Brooke and Jeff had pepperoni. I had mushrooms, grape tomatoes, spinach and fresh basil. IT WAS WONDERFUL!!!!

If you're on a journey this year to lose weight, or simply live a healthier lifestyle I hope I can be a source of inspiration for you. THAT would be the greatest accountability partner EVER!
